The KNX NZ Awards have recognised the awesome achievements in residential and commercial building projects throughout the country, showcasing the very best in the sector. Congratulations to our winners.
2017 KNX NZ Best Product
Theben AG won Best Product for their Dimming Actuator DM8-2T. The 8x 200W dimming actuator features load recognition, LED, incandescent, LV, HV Halogen lamps, & energy saving lamps. It can also control fans.
On a recent job the consultant, customer and lighting designer were so happy with the product they now recommend this product on all their automation jobs.
Wago won Best Product for their Series 750 KNX IP Programmable Fieldbus Controller. The Controller is freely programmable for any application and contains several high-performance devices in one.
2017 KNX NZ Best Residential Project
EASE Integration Ltd
The system installed allowed the client to monitor and control lighting, under floor heating, garage doors, and a six zone multi room audio system. Functions such as timers, schedules, scenes and logic driven events provided automated events.
The system was designed for the home in such a way that the owners can easily expand the capability of their KNX home in the future with plans to incorporate weather monitoring, water/irrigation solutions and home ventilation.
To achieve the desired result, products from a wide number KNX manufacturers were specified and work together in harmony to deliver a robust system.
2017 KNX NZ Best Commercial Project
This category was tied for first place with two very different projects.
A commercial office space for an electrical engineering company, the KNX System delivered
- An interface with the HVAC using occupancy detection & temperature sensing
- Colour lighting in the office boardroom via DMX
- Holistic Visualisation via Eisbaer: set scenes, view energy usage & set times
- An interface with a wireless solution
- An interface with AMX system which allows users to control the lighting system during conference calls.
- Controls the blinds on multiple levels using an astro clock and room temperature
- Street Signage was DALI controlled
- Daylight harvesting which lowers the lighting depending on the amount of natural light
Smart Building Technologies
Installation of over 450 KNX devices at Ormiston Junior College, a green star project, saw Smart Building Technologies winner of Commercial Project of the Year.
Knowing that the project would require infrastructure that would be robust, reliable, long lasting and energy efficient – Open Standard Protocol – KNX was the obvious solution for this and later for an additional three schools. In a school with more than 1200 students, the main target was to have an energy efficient automated system, that would consume less energy and wouldn’t require complex operators’ interaction.
The project saw the following applications implemented: Daylight Harvesting, Constant Lighting Control, Presence & Absence Control, Astronomical Time Clock, Time Scheduling, Energy Monitoring & efficiancy, SMS control of outdoor courts, Intruder activation & Fire.
